Zaro Aga claimed, among other things, that he was born in 1764, that he had met Napoleon, that he had fought in six wars, and that he had been married 11 or 12 times and fathered approximately 36 children. Starting in 1930, he toured the United States and travelled with circus shows. He did not believe in equality of the sexes, stating that women should have long hair, wear skirts, and remain indoors.
When his wife threatened to sue him for maintenance, he returned to his native Turkey and resumed his job as a coffee brewer. He passed away in 1934; a few years later, an investigator concluded that his age at time of death was 97.
