Barbara Bannister

Toronto Daily Star, March 20 1931

At the time, female tennis players normally wore skirts that extended below the knee, so showing this much leg on the court would have been unusual.

A search for Barbara Bannister turned up nothing except for one other picture of her in tennis shorts, quite likely taken at the same time as this one. She apparently was a socialite who lived in the Plaza Hotel in New York, wintered at Miami Beach, and played tennis nearly every day while there.
