Moissaye Boguslawski (1887-1944) was actually American; he was born in Chicago after his parents had immigrated from Russia. Despite a poverty-stricken background, Boguslawski became proficient enough at the piano to be named head of the piano department at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music when he was just 20 years old. He later taught in Chicago and formed the Boguslawski College of Music. He also played all of Bach's piano music and all of Beethoven's sonatas on a Chicago radio station, which took him 21 weeks.
"Bogie", as he was sometimes known, was apparently also good at attracting media attention (presumably, such as the photo above). A search for information on him turned up this collection of reviews from 1917 and a recording that he made in the 1920s.
