Leonard Bonney

Toronto Daily Star, May 8 1928

Leonard Warden Bonney (1884-1928) had been trained to fly by the Wright brothers and had flown as part of their exhibition team. His plane, the Bonney Gull, took five years to build.

There is British Pathé newsreel footage of the plane's attempted flight. By chance, the plane's flight was obscured by a passerby at the moment of the crash. This is perhaps just as well. The footage shows the wreckage of the plane, which was total, but fortunately does not show Bonney's body after the crash.
