Hartley de Gerald

A search turned up a YouTube video that described Hartley de Gerald's life and adventures. His father, a bank executive, wanted young Hartley to be independent, encouraging him to first journey locally on his own and then broaden his travels.
Unfortunately, he was not able to travel to Fiji or elsewhere after this photograph was taken: the bank at which his father worked went bankrupt and his father abandoned the family and disappeared. Young Hartley was forced to go to work to support his family; he later became a truck driver. He eventually moved to Florida and passed away in 2001 at the age of 82.
