Thelma Golden (1915-1980) started her softball career in 1928. She auditioned at Wrigley Field in Chicago for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943. She signed a contract to play for the Rockford Peaches, but had to give it up because she had sustained a serious rib injury three years earlier; the contract called for her to pitch 60 games, which was too much for her after the injury.
Ms. Golden returned to amateur athletics, pitching for the Montreal Royals in 1943 before returning to Toronto for another five years. She underwent back surgery in 1948 and retired after that, except for one exhibition game in 1950. The Girls of Summer website, which discusses the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, has an article on her.
