
Out of morbid curiosity, I looked Ernest Lineker up in the Toronto city directories. He was indeed a broker in 1928. Not only did he have a listing in that year's directory, he had an advertisement on that page:

Not only that, he had an ad on the front cover (he's at the top):

He is not listed in any directory after that before 1934. The 1931 and 1932 directories list a Mrs. Louise Lineker and the 1933 directory lists Lyle Lineker, all at an apartment on Ontario Street, but I am assuming that the other Linekers are unrelated.
The 1934 directory lists Ernest E. Lineker as a financial agent with an office in a room at 6 Adelaide Street East and his home as 107 Connolly Street. The 1935 directory just lists his office and the 1936 directory has no listing for anyone named Lineker. I have no idea whether he died unmarried or whether his widow left town after the accident. An Internet search turned up no ancestry records or other information about him.
