Harry Sniderman

Toronto Daily Star, July 14 1937

Harry Sniderman played on up to five softball teams at a time during his prime in the late 1920s and early 1930s. In 1936, he organized a fundraiser to enable two Toronto Jewish boxers, Sammy Luftspring and Norman "Baby" Yack, to attend an alternate Olympics in Barcelona instead of the games being held in Nazi Germany. The alternate games wound up not being held due to the Spanish Civil War.

In later years, Sniderman organized fundraisers for Israel and owned and managed the Warwick Hotel at the corner of Dundas and Jarvis, which was demolished in 1980. At one time, he and his associates owned property on three of the four corners of that intersection.

Sniderman passed away in 1976 at the age of 70. Information on him can be found in this obituary and in this Ontario Jewish Archives page.
