Between 1991 and 2005, the former Bachman-Turner Overdrive carried on without Randy Bachman, performing as "BTO" with guitarist and vocalist Randy Murray in his place. In 1996, this incarnation of BTO released an album titled Trial By Fire: Greatest & Latest; it included re-recordings of classic Bachman-Turner Overdrive songs and this version of "House Of The Rising Sun".
C. Fred Turner, the vocalist on this, is more of a shouter than a singer. That particular sound works well on some of the band's greatest hits, including the awesome "Roll On Down The Highway". However, Turner can't resist the temptation to over-emote on this version of "House Of The Rising Sun", making it, sadly, unlistenable and almost bordering on self-parody. I only lasted 1:08 of it and that was after giving it two goes.
Bachman and Turner reunited in 2009 but were not able to call themselves Bachman-Turner Overdrive due to lawsuits from the rest of the former band; they released an album, Bachman & Turner, in 2010 and performed together until Turner retired from touring in 2019.
