The Bermudas - Donnie

April 1964 - Weeks On Chart: 3 - Highest Position: 43

Beatlemania was in full swing when this song was released - it was from an earlier time and might have done better on the charts had it been released five years earlier.

The Bermudas were three sisters from Los Angeles - Becky, Joanna, and Sheila Page - and were 12, 14, and 15 at the time "Donnie" was released. It reached #62 on the Billboard Hot 100. The sisters released one other single, "Blue Dreamer".

A search revealed that the mother of the three Page sisters, Rickie Page, was a session singer and that the sisters and their mother also performed as The Majorettes, Becky and the Lollipops, Joanne and the Triangles, and the Georgettes. They seem to have released singles under many of these group names in 1963 and 1964, if the Discogs website is accurate.

From what I've been able to track down, Sheila Page later became a choreographer and dance instructor. Joanna Clark apparently passed away in 2017.

If you want to see a time capsule from about the very last part of the era before the 1960s as we know it emerged, check out the sisters' performance and interview on American Bandstand. I found this a bit uncomfortable to watch, though - they were all so very young and they looked a bit overwhelmed.
