The Busters - Bust Out

October 1963 - Weeks On Chart: 3 - Highest Position: 33

This was released a couple of months after the Surfaris' "Wipe Out" and seems like an attempt to cash in on its success. I found it a bit relentless.

The Busters were originally called The Northern Lights and were possibly either from Greenfield, Massachusetts or Springfield, Massachusetts. "Bust Out" was originally called "Typhoid", which I am thinking is a terrible name for a song. It was recorded in 1960 and appeared on an album titled College Hop.

Under its revised name, "Bust Out" reached #25 on the Billboard Hot 100. After this, the Busters released a couple of other singles with no success. They then disappeared off the face of the earth, or at least off the internet.

A music store in Britain offers the complete collection of Busters and Northern Lights music for a little less than 10 pounds.

Created March 17, 2026.
