This song is interesting but I don't think I could listen to it multiple times - the backing vocalists are irritating with their repeated choruses of "wella-wella-wella-well".
Chico Holiday, real name Ralph Joseph Vergolino (born 1934), was from Waukesha, Wisconsin. "Young Ideas" appears to have been his first single release; it reached only #74 on the Billboard Hot 100, so it did better in Toronto than most places. He continued to release singles into the 1960s but doesn't seem to have experienced any further success.
In later life, Holiday became a gospel singer with a commitment to Christianity. His personal website provides more information on his life and his faith. A search turned up an Instagram post from 2023 commemorating his 89th birthday; as far as I know, he is still alive.
