Friend & Lover - Reach Out Of The Darkness

June 1968 - Weeks On Chart: 5 - Highest Position: 10

This song is so very, very 1960s - everything is just groovy! The chorus is compelling, though it goes "Reach out in the darkness", not "Reach out of the darkness". Whatever, I guess.

Friend & Lover were the husband-and-wife team of Jim Post (1939-2022) and Cathy Post (1945-2018). "Reach Out Of The Darkness" reached out of the darkness all the way to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #6 in Canada. It is so typically 1960s that it has appeared in several TV and movie soundtracks set in that time.

The Posts broke up not too long after this, and neither of them did anything particularly memorable afterwards. Jim Post released a few solo albums in the 1970s and 1980s and then performed as Mark Twain in one-man stage shows. Cathy Post remarried twice, had three children, and moved to New Mexico before returning to her native Chicago.
