In the early 1970s, songs about God and Christianity made regular appearances on the pop charts as well as in musicals such as Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. This is obviously one example of this and is one of the latest. Whether you like it or not depends on whether you want to hear a musical rendition of The Lord's Prayer.
Janet Mead (1937-2022) was from Australia and was, indeed, a nun. Her rendition of "The Lord's Prayer" reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one and a half million copies. It was the second top-10 song ever recorded by a nun, the first being "Dominique".
Ms. Mead apparently did not enjoy the pressure of fame, which is understandable. Instead of continuing a career as a pop musician, she went back to being a nun while performing and producing Christian music. She was named the South Australian of the Year in 2004 for her work with homeless people.
