This is energetic and enthusiastic - I'm not surprised it went to number one. I don't think I want to listen to it multiple times but I enjoyed listening to it once.
This song sounds a lot like some of Dion's songs, such as "Runaround Sue", but this is not surprising: Ernie Maresca (1938-2015) wrote or co-wrote many of Dion's hits, including "Runaround Sue", "The Wanderer", and "Donna The Prima Donna". He was from the Bronx and started his career in the Monterays, a doo-wop group; after he left them, they became the Regents and became famous for their version of "Barbara Ann".
Maresca continued recording singles through the 1960s, either under his own name or as "Artie Chicago (From The Bronx)", but did not come anywhere near the charts again. After that, he became a record company executive.
