This is relentlessly upbeat and cheerful. I didn't have any problems listening to it but it seems to be a display of musical competence rather than an expression of heartfelt emotion.
I didn't know until today that Maxine Nightingale (born 1952) is British. For 18 months, starting in 1969, she played supporting and understudy roles in the London West End production of Hair. She then moved to Germany and continued her stage career there, marrying the director of the German production of Hair.
She returned to London and became a session singer, where she was given the opportunity to record "Right Back Where We Started From". It reached #8 in the UK and #2 on the Billboard singles chart. She got to #11 in the UK in 1977 with "Love Hit Me" and #5 on the Hot 100 in 1978 with "Lead Me On"; neither received airplay in Toronto.
Ms. Nightingale released her last single in 1985 and her last album in 1986. In later years, she has sung jazz in live performance and has toured on the oldies circuit.
