The O'Kaysions - Girl Watcher

September 1968 - Weeks On Chart: 9 - Highest Position: 9

This song reminds me that the world is a different place now than it was in the 1960s and 1970s. (For one thing, unmarried women could not have a credit card of their own in Canada until 1974.) It wouldn't be played on the radio today and a video such as this one couldn't be filmed, as I'm reasonably certain that not all of the women in it gave their consent to appear. I remember the song from when I was younger and didn't bother listening to much of it now, as it seems creepy.

The O'Kaysions were from Kenly, North Carolina, and were known as The Kays when they were formed in 1959. "Girl Watcher" reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over one million copies.

That was about it for The O'Kaysions - they released an album and some additional singles through 1971 but didn't achieve further success. A version of the band, with only one original member, was performing as recently as 2020. The song, retitled "I'm a Wheel Watcher", later became the theme song for the game show Wheel Of Fortune.
