Leroy Pullins - I'm A Nut

June 1966 - Weeks On Chart: 6 - Highest Position: 20

This song lives up to its billing - it's nutty. It's country music played at high speed with random bits of weird vocalizing in it. It's poking fun at itself rather than sniggering, so I could listen to it without wincing.

Leroy Pullins (1940-1984) was from Berea, Kentucky. "I'm a Nut" reached #18 on the U.S. country and western chart but reached only #57 on the Billboard Hot 100. He recorded two albums and continued to release singles through 1968 but with no success. His last single release was titled "The Interstate Is Coming Through My Outhouse"; sadly, it's not as interesting as its title.

Pullins left the music business after this - he moved back to Berea and became a firefighter. He died, far too young, of a heart attack.
