The Sensations - Let Me In

March 1962 - Weeks On Chart: 13 - Highest Position: 7

This song's relentless 2/4 beat gives it a bit of a jazz feel, at least for me. I didn't feel the need to finish it but I was able to listen to it.

The Sensations actually had two separate careers in the music business. They were from Philadelphia and got together in 1954. In 1956, they had two records on the U.S. R&B charts: "Yes Sir That's My Baby" and "Please Mr. Disc Jockey". They then split up; lead singer Yvonne Mills married and started a family, becoming Yvonne Mills Baker.

In 1961, the bass singer of the group, Alphonso Howell, persuaded Ms. Baker to reform the group with two new members. They reached #54 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year with their version of the old Teresa Brewer hit "Music, Music, Music". Their next release, "Let Me In", reached #4 on the Hot 100.

Subsequent releases were unsuccessful and the group soon broke up again. Ms. Baker went solo and released some songs that were popular with Britain's Northern Soul fans. She passed away in 2020.
