The CHUM Chart Book lists this band's name as The Tee Set - when I started writing this up, I learned that they were actually called Tee-Set. Live and learn!
"Ma Belle Amie" was one of three Dutch songs released by producer Jerry Ross's Colossus record label in 1970. (The others were Shocking Blue's "Venus" and George Baker Selection's "Little Green Bag".) It reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970 and sold over one million copies. I like it well enough but I strongly suspect that lead singer Peter Tetteroo was singing the English words of the song phonetically.
Tee-Set had several other hit singles in their native Netherlands, including "She Likes Weeds", which reached #1 there. (This is also in English and, to be fair, it sounds like he's actually singing in the language here.) They released singles in their home country into the 1980s. Tetteroo, sadly, died of liver cancer in 2002 at the age of 55.
