Art and Dotty Todd - Chanson D'Amour

May 1958 - Weeks On Chart: 13 - Highest Position: 2

This is one of the last songs from the era before rock and roll to make it to the Toronto pop chart. I'm not a fan of this era of music but I'm impressed by the layers of harmonies in the vocals.

Art and Dotty Todd were an American husband-and-wife singing duo who met when the Biltmore Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island, accidentally booked them into the same suite. They had a hit in the UK in 1953 with "Broken Wings". "Chanson D'Amour" ("Song Of Love") was their only hit in the United States, reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling over one million copies.

The rise of rock and roll meant that the Todds' music fell out of fashion. They remained nightclub singers, playing regularly in Las Vegas and then opening their own club in Honolulu. Dotty Todd passed away in 2000 at the age of 87; Arthur Todd died in 2007 at the age of 93.

Created February 6, 2026.
